Victoria Beckham: Fashion Ambassador

Monday 20th of February 2012 03:15:00 PM

Victoria Beckham: Fashion AmbassadorLondon Fashion Week is often foreshadowed during NY Fashion Week and this year was no exception. One of the big announcements that was made during the event came from Victoria Beckham who was present in part as a designer but also to declare her new role as one of the international ambassador’s of the GREAT Britain Campaign, which is a celebration of everything wonderful about Britain.

She joins a cast of actors, performers, musicians, celebrity athletes and chefs, all of whom will promote the uniquely British approach to their chosen fields. Beckham’s ready to wear collection, created in the UK and stocked in prestigious retail outlets around the world, has led to her developing a solid following of fashionistas and a celebrity wedge of famous fans who wear her designs.

Part of the GREAT Britain campaign is to focus attention on the role of the UK in global markets, both as a tourist attraction and as an investment opportunity. The fashion industry, in particular has been a success story through the recession, contributing more than £21 billion to the economy in 2010, more than double that delivered by publishing and employing, through the design, manufacture and retailing sectors, over 800,000 people.

Other ‘Great Britons’ involved in the event were catwalk models Jourdan Dunn, Karen Elson, and Tamara Mellon and Anna Wintour of Vogue. The idea of the launch is to spearhead the campaign through London Fashion Week, into the Olympic run up, and beyond as Jeremy Hunt, Secretary of State for Culture, Olympics, Media and Sport, pointed out.
